Amsterdam Museumnacht 2013
On Saturday night 2-3 November the Museumnacht, was organized in Amsterdam for the fourteenth time. Over 45 cultural institutes opened their doors with a special program inspired on their collections and exhibitions.
In this year’s edition, Timebank partnered with the Waag Society and opened a Time market where 17 Timebankers demonstrated their skills in small workshops to the Museumnacht visitors. The Waag society is an institute for art, science and technology and has been working in the field of social innovation for many years. The event was a great success: Timebankers accomplished many transactions and 65 visitors, inspired by the wide range of workshops, opened a Timebank.cc account on the spot. The type of workshops presented was very diverse: from laughing therapy and sunscreen making, to knitting and sustainable living.
A rich diversity of exchanges and interactions
During the night, visitors were able to register with Timebank and experience the nature of time exchanges. Also, it was possible to obtain Hournotes by participating in Remko Siemerink’s (re404) art work “24 hours”, consisting of 24 disks divided in 12 pieces that represent five minutes, like a clock. Around 240 people helped him painting. The interactions with the public as well as their contribution to his art work were extremely gratifying for Remko: “Thanks so much to everybody for working with me! You blew me away with your colors, your fantasy and your production. I was hoping to maybe finish 10 discs, but in the end I had 20 discs filled with joy!”
The many people that helped Remko, earned five minutes to attend the various workshops that were offered. Ronald (Ronald Huynen) presented an original crash course on hitchhiking, providing many strategic tips, inspiring and triggering the adventurous spirit of many who had never thought or dared to hitchhike.
Anna (Annastolk), who gave a Pimp Your Face workshop, describes the experience: “I really enjoyed the Museumnacht at The Waag! The atmosphere was great; people entered The Waag curiously, they were very inquisitive. I earned my first hour at The Waag by pimping peoples’ faces. It was fun to do and I think most people were very happy with their pimped faces.”
A very successful event and many more to come!
The event at Museumnacht was a great success! The number of attendees and their enthusiasm exceeded all organizers’ expectations: “We are all thrilled with every single new user and to see the community continuously grow.”
Next Timebank event, TIME: RE-IMAGINED, will take place in The Hague on November 29th. Make sure you don’t miss it!
See you soon!
