Potluck and Scrabble in the park at Ronald’s
Have you ever wanted to play Dutch scrabble with a friend but were on unequal footing because only one of you was a native Dutch speaker? Never fear, bilingual scrabble is here!
Now you and your friends can be on equal ground and play scrabble in both Dutch and English. Ronald has made a Scrabble board with two sets of letters; one using the English scrabble scoring system and the other using the Dutch scoring system.
Call it Denglish scrabble. Or Engutch. We’re working on a better title… Either way, come join us in Paleistuinen on June 30 for Timebank.cc’s first game night. Bring food and drinks for a picnic. If you’re an expat it will also be a good opportunity to learn some interesting Dutch words.
Participation is without costs: no Euro’s, no Hours.
Just bring some food and drinks to share with you competitors.

BILINGUAL SCRABBLE – ENGLISH Vs DUTCH
- Each player takes 7 letters from the basket.
- Player with last stone closest to the Z in alphabetical order starts.
- Set timer to limit the game duration: 30 / 60 / 90 min games can be played.
- RED = word value 2 or 3 times, both directions.
- BLUE = letter value 2 or 3 times, both directions.
- Blue letters are for English, secondary word in Dutch is allowed.
- Black letters are for Dutch, secondary word in English is allowed.
- No abbreviations and names. Words may be checked in dictionary by opponent. Misspelled word: player loses turn.
- 50 bonus points if full supply is played.
- Pass a turn: take a new stone from the basket. Return a stone to the basket if more then 7 stones are held in players supply.
- Game over when timer rings: supply letters will be deducted from score. Player with highest score wins!
